THE FIRST WEEKS

Breeding Yorkies are not easy like many people think, they are very delicate and many times they will need cesarean  (puppies are to big or they  got stuck) or the puppies are to small that they will need extra attention and care.  I get up in the night every 2 hours the first week and every three hours the second week to  check and help feed the puppies, if one or two are not nursing good I bottle feed the puppy or tube feed them depending on their size.

All the  whelps are in  my  nursery room, I personally help the mother in the whelping time. I help her opening the sack, stimulating the puppy to breath, cutting the umbilical cord, drying them. I  weigh  each puppy and keep a record of their growth.

I never left one of my girl have  her puppies by her self. temperature is monitor so we are ready 24 hours  before the stork come .

I  weigh  each puppy and keep a record of their growth.  I help to nurse  the ones the are not gaining weight.  I get up in the night every 2 hours the first week and every three hours the second week to  check and help feed the puppies, if one or two are not nursing good I bottle feed the puppy or tube feed them depending on their size.

Newborn yorkie

Puppies has sense of  touch and taste only. Their eyes and ears are closed.

They are black with the outline of gold on face and legs.

When they are 3 days old I take them to my vet to remove the dewclaws and dock the tails of my little Yorkies.

Two week old yorkie

Eyes are open anywhere from 12 days to two weeks. They will not be able to focus them properly for a few more days so they will appear funny looking.

Ears should be opening too.

They move around more than earlier but still mostly just on their stomach.

I stay most all the time with them until they are 2 weeks old watching every sneeze, wiggle or cry.

They are de-wormed at 3,4,6,  and 8 weeks old and they receive  their vaccination once or twice  depending on their age.

I start using wee pads  at the age of 4 weeks old so that by the time they go home they have a nice grasp on potty training.

Three week old yorkie. They have really progressed a lot from two weeks. Now they are wobbling around on their legs and getting a little ways away from Mom. Eyes will be focusing much better but still have a ways to go.  Teeth may be starting to come in.

Five week old yorkie

Now we are starting to look much more like a yorkie. Eyes are well developed and hearing too. They will be playing with their litter mates and nibbling in the food bowl of Mom.

six week old yorkie

7 weeks old

At 7 or 8 weeks old   the puppies are seen by our Vet  for implant of the AVID Microchip  and  to do  a health check.  This is to ensure that the puppy is ok to go to their new family.

8 weeks old.

Bella weighs   2.5 lbs full grown.
