I
Have heard that to estimate the adult weight of our Yorkie puppy all we have to do is weigh him at 3 months old then double the weight. Is this true? This theory has never been a sure test for estimating Yorkie adult weights, especially with tiny Yorkies. I believe that someone in the past might have made this statement and somehow through the years it has become a statement of fact. Yorkie puppies grow by their own genetic codes. Some will grow quickly and finish by 6 months, while others will not stop growing until around 9-10 months. An informed breeder should be able to tell you what to expect with her puppies.
When can I come and see the puppies? You can come and see the available puppies when they are 8 weeks old .
The puppies need at least their first series of shots at 7 weeks old to help provide immunity against viruses. Viruses such as Parvo can be brought on the clothing and feet of individuals that have been exposed to infected feces of an affected dog with Parvo or other disease..........contracted by visiting a kennel, a vet clinic, dog show, or by coming in contact with infected feces from visiting a park. This can occur where an affected dog with parvo or other disease will contaminate an area by leaving its feces. Please do Not insist to come before that time , we do not risk the health of our puppies juts to make a sale.
At what age can I pick my puppy up? When the puppy is at least 10 weeks of age and having had a vet check. sometimes they have to stay for a little longer.
Will you take pictures of my puppy so I can see how he or she is growing? Yes, I will take photos at two week intervals as follows: birth, 2 weeks, 4 weeks, 6 and 8 weeks of age etc...
At what age can we expect our puppy to stop growing ? Our Yorkies usually have their adult size in height by 6 months. After 6 months they will grow muscle and their rib cage will open so they will not look as thin.
Will my Yorkie always be black and tan? No, your Yorkshire Terrier is born black and tan. The head will change from black to silver then gold. The body will change from black to slate blue color. At least that is the plan. Some Yorkie's go through the color change quickly and some take longer. By year three your Yorkshire terrier should reach it's mature colors.
Our puppy will at times race around the house as if chasing an invisible ball. It is such a cute thing and makes us all laugh. What causes this and will it last? call this behavior “Extreme puppy joy”. It is caused by a burst of adrenaline and can last for only a few seconds. While your puppy is racing around, do not interrupt him and just stand back and enjoy the show. By 12 months of age, you will realize that you seldom see him being quite so energetic and you will miss this cute behavior.
I am a teacher and would like to have my puppy by the first of June. Will you have any available at that time? We do not always have available puppies. It is best to check with us if you have a certain date that is important to you and we will be able to tell you when our next litter will be available. We can usually estimate the time one of our girls will be in season and try to get a puppy to you by that date. We do not announce a litter on our web-site until they are about two weeks old. Usually, a litter will have several puppies pre-adopted before we even make the birth announcement on Royal Puppy Paws website. So, please call us instead of waiting for an announcement. Remember that we cannot produce puppies to meet certain dates. That is when Mother Nature steps in and says “All in good time”.
Do you recommend taking our new puppy on walks before the puppy shot series is completed? Puppies get a series of three, sometimes four puppy shots, three weeks apart. The reason for this is because no one knows when the puppy’s immune system will accept the shot and provide the necessary immunity. Because of this, it is important to keep your little one at home where he is safe from possible infection of any kind.
Can I feed my Yorkie once a day? i "do" recommend to have food available at all times.
Yorkie Teeth :
Yorkies and toy dogs in general have a tendency to retain their puppy
teeth,
You can supply
your pup with allot of tug toys to loosen those baby teeth naturally,
but if by age of 6-7 months
your puppy has double teeth, it's wise to have them extracted during the
spay / neuter
procedure.
Do Yorkie's shed? No, their hair is like human hair so like humans their hair falls out but they do not shed.
Isn't crate training cruel? No, dogs are den animals by nature. If there crate is accessible all the time you will find they go to it when they want to sleep or when they want to get away from any commotion that may be going on. The crate is not to be used for punishment and they should not be used to lock your Yorkie in for long periods of time. They should only be use for short periods of time .
Can we feed our dog people food? Dogs were not designed to digest people food, especially with all the chemicals, artificial flavorings, etc that are in people food. For this reason we do not recommend that you feed any people food to your dog. There are some foods that you must never, ever give, or have accessible to your dog. They can cause serious illness or death to your little loved one. Here is a list of the worst foods that you should never allow your pet to ingest.
This puppies are not available,
